About Van Cleef Arpels 18k Yellow Gold Lucky Alhambra Between the Finger Ring

Most rings ask for one finger. This one takes two.

A tiger's eye butterfly on one side. A mother-of-pearl quatrefoil on the other. Between them — a thin gold span and the negative space that makes the whole thing work.

The butterfly's wings are cut from a single stone, the chatoyant bands rolling across each panel like weather across a field. The clover is white mother-of-pearl — cool, milky, almost lit from inside. Across the open setting they look at each other like two thoughts that haven't quite agreed.

Van Cleef & Arpels introduced Lucky Alhambra in 2006. It was the Maison's permission slip to its own vocabulary — the 1968 quatrefoil could now be a butterfly, a heart, a star, a leaf. Small symbols. No captions required.

Both motifs wear the beaded gold border that's defined Alhambra for nearly sixty years. Identical surround. Different soul.

She wears it because it isn't quiet. Because the butterfly lands first and the clover follows like a punctuation mark she chose herself. Because two motifs across an open band say something a single signet can't.

Van Cleef and Arpels Backstory

Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in Paris in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and the Arpels brothers — Charles, Julien, and Louis — sons of jeweler Salomon Arpels. The maison's Place Vendôme address remains its headquarters more than a century later.

In 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels patented the Mystery Set, an invisible setting technique in which precious stones are mounted with no visible prongs or metalwork between them. The technique requires hundreds of hours per piece and is still used today on the maison's most important high jewelry.

Across collections like Alhambra, Perlée, and Frivole, Van Cleef & Arpels remains one of the most distinctive voices in twentieth-century French jewelry.
