Van Cleef & Arpels Cosmos Diamond Brooch Pendant Necklace — 18k Yellow Gold, Vintage

The Cosmos was Van Cleef & Arpels at its most disciplined. Four heart-shaped petals in 18k yellow gold, each densely set with round brilliant-cut diamonds, organized around a single larger diamond at the heart. No filigree, no fuss. The gold is doing the structural work and the diamonds are doing the light.

This is the vintage version of the design — the convertible brooch-pendant configuration that Van Cleef produced in earlier decades. It pins to a lapel, or threads onto a chain. One piece, two registers. The current Cosmos production is pendant-only; collectors who want the dual-function piece have to look to the secondary market.

The chain is signed and hallmarked at the catch. The brooch fitting is original, intact, and operates cleanly. We've inspected every prong, every petal, every clasp.

Provenance shows. The set of the diamonds, the way the petals catch light from a side angle — these are tells of an era when Van Cleef's atelier was still working at scale by hand. The current production is exquisite in its own way. This one was built differently.
