About Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra Malachite Earrings 18K Yellow Gold

The biggest clover VCA makes, in the green that started the obsession.

Magic Alhambra scales the four-leaf motif up to its largest size, and these are set with malachite — deep forest green banded in lighter stripes, no two clovers matching because no two slabs of malachite ever do. The beaded 18K yellow gold border wraps each motif in the house's signature granulation, hand-set bead by bead.

The banding is what sells it. Look close and you get concentric ripples running across the face, some tight and linear, some wide and cloudy. That's the stone's natural growth structure, and it's why malachite reads richer in person than any photo manages.

Fitted with post-and-omega backs — the post goes through, the hinged clip snaps closed behind the lobe. Secure, comfortable, and no drooping under the weight of a larger motif.

Signed and hallmarked. Green against gold, at a scale that carries a room.

Van Cleef and Arpels Backstory

Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in Paris in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and the Arpels brothers — Charles, Julien, and Louis — sons of jeweler Salomon Arpels. The maison's Place Vendôme address remains its headquarters more than a century later.

In 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels patented the Mystery Set, an invisible setting technique in which precious stones are mounted with no visible prongs or metalwork between them. The technique requires hundreds of hours per piece and is still used today on the maison's most important high jewelry.

Across collections like Alhambra, Perlée, and Frivole, Van Cleef & Arpels remains one of the most distinctive voices in twentieth-century French jewelry.
