Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra 20 Motif Chalcedony 18K White Gold Necklace

The Alhambra needs no explanation to those who know it. Van Cleef & Arpels introduced the four-leaf clover motif in 1968 and it has not left the conversation since — worn by queens and collected by connoisseurs, reproduced endlessly and matched by no one. The twenty-motif configuration is the statement version: a continuous rope of clover forms that circles the neck with the kind of authority that shorter Alhambra iterations only suggest.

This example is set in 18-karat white gold and features chalcedony — a stone VCA has returned to across decades for the particular quality of its color. Pale blue-grey with a waxy translucence, chalcedony reads differently in different lights: cool and almost silvery indoors, softer and more complex in daylight. Against white gold, it has an iciness that feels thoroughly modern while remaining entirely consistent with the Alhambra's classic vocabulary.
