About Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra Bracelet 5 Motifs 18K White Gold Guilloche

The Vintage Alhambra bracelet in 18K white gold — five motifs, each face engraved with a guilloché sunburst that radiates from a polished gold bead at the center. The beaded border frames it the way it always has. What changes is the surface: instead of an inlaid stone, the metal itself does the work, and the engraved rays throw light in every direction as the wrist moves.

Guilloché is a machine-engraving technique borrowed from watchmaking, and on a piece this small it's unforgiving — the lines have to run dead straight into the center bead across four lobes. Van Cleef uses it sparingly, which is why the guilloché versions turn up far less often than mother-of-pearl or onyx. Fine cable-link chain, signed lobster clasp with the safety ring.

All-metal, all-white, no color to coordinate around. It goes with everything and reads quieter than the stone-set versions — which for a lot of buyers is the entire point.

The bracelet measures 8" in length and can be shortened at any boutique if required.

Van Cleef and Arpels Backstory

Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in Paris in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and the Arpels brothers — Charles, Julien, and Louis — sons of jeweler Salomon Arpels. The maison's Place Vendôme address remains its headquarters more than a century later.

In 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels patented the Mystery Set, an invisible setting technique in which precious stones are mounted with no visible prongs or metalwork between them. The technique requires hundreds of hours per piece and is still used today on the maison's most important high jewelry.

Across collections like Alhambra, Perlée, and Frivole, Van Cleef & Arpels remains one of the most distinctive voices in twentieth-century French jewelry.
