About Van Cleef Arpels Vintage Alhambra Malachite Diamond Long Necklace 20 Motifs

Twenty clovers, alternating green and white. This is the Vintage Alhambra at its most coveted length — a 20-motif long necklace in 18K yellow gold, ten motifs in rich green malachite and ten paved in diamonds, run in alternation down an oval-link chain. The banded malachite catches the light in soft concentric waves; no two clover faces read quite the same.

The diamond motifs carry 4.83 carats total — 120 round brilliants, D–F color, IF–VVS clarity, set twelve to a clover around a polished gold bead. Each motif, stone or pavé, is framed by Van Cleef's signature perlée border, that fine row of gold beads worked by hand around every edge. Closes on a lobster clasp. Signed VCA, with manufacturer's paperwork included.

At 33.8 inches this wears long and loose over a column of black, or doubles into a shorter two-strand layer when you want the clovers stacked close. Versatility built into the length.

Van Cleef and Arpels Backstory

Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in Paris in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and the Arpels brothers — Charles, Julien, and Louis — sons of jeweler Salomon Arpels. The maison's Place Vendôme address remains its headquarters more than a century later.

In 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels patented the Mystery Set, an invisible setting technique in which precious stones are mounted with no visible prongs or metalwork between them. The technique requires hundreds of hours per piece and is still used today on the maison's most important high jewelry.

Across collections like Alhambra, Perlée, and Frivole, Van Cleef & Arpels remains one of the most distinctive voices in twentieth-century French jewelry.
