About Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra Ring 18K Yellow Gold Onyx Diamond

A single Vintage Alhambra clover in 18K yellow gold — onyx set flush inside the signature beaded gold border, with a round brilliant diamond bezel-set dead center. That diamond is the whole difference. It turns the standard onyx motif into the pavé-adjacent version, one clean point of light against a stone that gives nothing back. The contrast does the work: warm gold, cold black, one bright flash between them.

The motif sits on a slim polished band that keeps the focus up top where it belongs. This is the standard Vintage Alhambra size, larger and more present than Sweet Alhambra, and it wears as a statement without tipping into loud. Onyx reads dressier than mother-of-pearl — sharp against white, easy against black or jewel tones, the kind of ring that works at a desk and at dinner without changing anything.

This is size 51 in VCA sizing, a US 5 3/4

Van Cleef and Arpels Backstory

Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in Paris in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and the Arpels brothers — Charles, Julien, and Louis — sons of jeweler Salomon Arpels. The maison's Place Vendôme address remains its headquarters more than a century later.

In 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels patented the Mystery Set, an invisible setting technique in which precious stones are mounted with no visible prongs or metalwork between them. The technique requires hundreds of hours per piece and is still used today on the maison's most important high jewelry.

Across collections like Alhambra, Perlée, and Frivole, Van Cleef & Arpels remains one of the most distinctive voices in twentieth-century French jewelry.
